SriLankan airlines suspends flights to Nepal
The decision comes as the Nepalese Army and other security forces assumed full responsibility for maintaining law and order from 10 p.m. yesterday (09), following a surge in violent protests.
According to a statement issued by the Nepalese Army, the move is aimed at controlling escalating violence, which has reportedly led to widespread looting, arson, and destruction of property. The army claims that certain groups are exploiting the crisis to cause chaos and damage.
The unrest intensified after protesters, angered by a government-imposed ban on social media platforms, set fire to the Parliament building and the Prime Minister’s residence. Several other government buildings were also reported destroyed during the clashes.
SriLankan Airlines stated that it is closely monitoring the situation and will resume operations as soon as conditions permit. Passengers are advised to check with the airline for further updates.
