Cybersecurity giant Kaspersky is urging Sri Lankan regulators to introduce clear cybersecurity guidelines for mobile financial services, warning of rising cyber threats targeting mobile users.

According to Kaspersky’s 2024 report, malware attacks on mobile devices doubled, and banking Trojans grew 3.6 times globally. Experts warn that Sri Lanka’s rapid shift to mobile banking and digital wallets leaves millions vulnerable.

Mobile users often lack protection and fall for fake apps or phishing scams, said Adrian Hia, Kaspersky’s Asia Pacific Managing Director. He cited threats like fake parcel apps and fraudulent e-commerce platforms.

Kaspersky recommends a national strategy involving regulators, banks, and telecoms, along with public awareness efforts. Users are advised to download apps only from official stores, update devices regularly, and use mobile security tools.
