Major renovations begin at Sri Lanka Parliament after 4-decade
After more than 42 years, large-scale renovations of the Sri Lanka Parliamentary Complex have officially commenced, marking the first major restoration effort since its inauguration in 1982.
The renovation project, approved by the Cabinet, is being carried out on the directive of Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne.
Current work includes the removal of the soil layer from the concrete roof terrace for structural repairs. Renovations are also underway on the roof gutters, the iconic copper door, Parliament Medical Center, washrooms, and Members’ Dressing Room.
While previous maintenance was handled by the Parliament’s Engineering Department, the present large-scale work is being undertaken with the labor support of the Sri Lanka Army.
