Inspector General of Police (IGP) Priyantha Weerasuriya said that he has faced no threats or intimidation amid intensified efforts to crack down on organised crime and drug trafficking in Sri Lanka.
The IGP said law enforcement authorities have made significant progress in ongoing operations, with efforts underway to apprehend dozens of suspects believed to be operating from overseas.
He said the transparency and effectiveness of the operations have received recognition from international agencies and foreign missions, reflecting strong international cooperation in tackling organised crime and drug trafficking.
Responding to questions about possible external pressure or threats against him, Weerasuriya said he had not experienced any such intimidation.
He said that individuals who have invested in or supported criminal activities may be unsettled by the ongoing crackdown, but stressed that he remains undeterred in carrying out his duties.
The IGP also dismissed recent political criticism and speculation about his position, saying he assumed office fully prepared to face the challenges associated with serving as the country's police chief.
Weerasuriya further said he remains confident about travelling anywhere in Sri Lanka without specialised security.
He contrasted this with certain political figures, suggesting that some may not enjoy the same freedom of movement because of their past actions and alleged harm caused to society.
Reaffirming his commitment to maintaining law and order, the IGP said he remains confident and has no fear about carrying out his responsibilities anywhere in the country.
