The Government has reiterated that no official records indicate the existence of a satellite named Supreme SAT launched by Sri Lanka.

Speaking at the weekly Cabinet press briefing held yesterday (12), Cabinet Spokesperson and Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said that the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), which oversees satellite coordination, has allocated two orbital slots for Sri Lanka.

However, according to available information, no satellite is registered under Sri Lanka in these slots, nor is there any satellite named Supreme SAT 1.

Addressing claims that Supreme SAT 1 was renamed China SAT 12, the Minister stated that while there are several satellites under the name China SAT, there is none titled China SAT 12 in the slots designated for Sri Lanka.

Dr. Jayatissa further explained that the ITU approval process to launch a satellite generally takes three to seven years. In Sri Lanka, this responsibility falls under the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission, which holds ITU membership
