Walas Kata’ Injured in Escape Attempt from Police Custody

Underworld figure Thilina Sampath, alias ‘Walas Kata’, sustained fractures to both legs and an arm after attempting to escape from the Western Province North Crime Division last night (09).
Police said the incident occurred around 9:15 p.m. when the suspect, in custody under a 90-day detention order, asked to use the washroom. While being escorted by four officers, he allegedly assaulted them and leapt from the third floor of the building.
He is currently receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital under heavy police guard.
