Police have arrested a man who allegedly posed as the secretary to Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala in an attempt to secure the release of a suspect detained by the Maharagama Police for heroin possession.

Police have arrested a man who allegedly posed as the secretary to Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala in an attempt to secure the release of a suspect detained by the Maharagama Police for heroin possession.

According to police, the suspect had made phone calls to the Maharagama Police Station claiming to represent the minister. 

They said that legal action has been initiated, and a special investigation is underway.

In a statement, the Ministry of Public Security clarified that neither the minister nor any member of his staff will exert undue influence or interfere in arrests or police actions. 

The ministry also reiterated its ongoing efforts to combat drugs and underworld activities while upholding law and order in the country.
