The Constitutional Council of Sri Lanka is scheduled to reconvene on August 12 to finalise the appointment of the country’s next Inspector General of Police (IGP).

During its previous meeting on August 7, the Council was unable to reach a decision due to insufficient attendance by its members. A parliamentary spokesperson stated that the delay was caused by challenges in securing the presence of all required members for the session.

The new appointment comes in the wake of the removal of former IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon, who was dismissed by the President following the passing of a parliamentary motion.
