Opposition MP Shanakyan Rasamanickam has alleged that a young man, who was reportedly taken by force and assaulted, was found dead in the Muthaiyankattu tank.
Quoting local residents, Rasamanickam claimed that four youths were taken to the Muthaiyankattu army camp under the pretext of collecting scrap metal, where they were allegedly assaulted. One of them managed to escape but later went missing, and his body was subsequently recovered from the tank.
The MP described the incident as a test for the government to demonstrate whether it would ensure justice for victims or protect a culture of impunity.
However, Army Spokesman Brigadier Waruna Gamage denied any Army involvement in the incident and said they would assist the police investigation.
