An islandwide special operation has led to the arrest of 907 individuals over drug-related offences, police said.
The crackdown, aimed at curbing narcotics and underworld activities, also resulted in the arrest of 17 suspects directly linked to crimes and the execution of 343 outstanding warrants.
More than 6,129 security personnel were deployed for the operation, during which 27,388 individuals, 9,758 vehicles, and 7,509 motorcycles were checked. Police also seized two illegal firearms.
In addition, 58 drunk drivers were arrested, and legal action was taken against 2,992 motorists for traffic offences including reckless driving.
A special search at Boossa Prison uncovered 11 milligrams of heroin. Across the country on 8 August 2025 alone, police seized a total of 1.547 kilograms of heroin and 726.107 grams of crystal methamphetamine (ice).
