Sri Lanka’s official reserve assets have climbed to USD 6.14 billion as of the end of July 2025, marking a 1% increase from the USD 6.08 billion recorded at the end of June, according to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL).
A notable component of these reserves around USD 1.4 billion stems from a currency swap arrangement with the People’s Bank of China. The CBSL emphasized that the use of these funds remains subject to specific conditions, ensuring prudent management of the country’s foreign exchange resources.
Economists view the uptick in reserves as a positive sign for Sri Lanka’s capacity to meet its external debt obligations while bolstering investor confidence. Analysts further note that maintaining higher reserve levels provides a stronger buffer against global economic shocks and supports the nation’s ongoing recovery efforts.
