The Department of Meteorology forecasts several spells of light showers today (09) in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Northern Provinces, as well as in the Nuwara Eliya, Kandy, Galle, and Matara districts. Mainly fair weather is expected to prevail in other areas of the island.
Sea Area Forecast (Next 24 Hours)
Rain: Showers are likely at a few places in the sea areas off the coast from Negombo to Matara via Galle.
Winds: Winds will be westerly to south-westerly at speeds of 30-40 kmph.
Wind speeds may increase up to 50-55 kmph at times from Matara to Akkaraipattu via Hambantota.
Wind speeds may reach 50 kmph at times from Kalpitiya to Kankasanthurai via Mannar.
Sea Conditions:
Matara to Akkaraipattu via Hambantota – Rough at times.
Kalpitiya to Kankasanthurai via Mannar – Fairly rough at times.
Mariners are advised to be cautious in the above-mentioned sea areas due to the possibility of rough conditions.
