President participated in the 14th session of the National Council for DMC

The discussion focused on the measures taken to reduce disaster risks in Sri Lanka, emerging trends and future plans. Emphasis was placed on the need for a unified structure with a centralized operational approach. 

Accordingly, he instructed that the necessary amendments to the Disaster Management Act be submitted in the upcoming session.

President also gave instructions to review and update the existing housing compensation schemes and proposed insurance coverage provided during disaster situations. Furthermore, He directed that the housing projects for families still residing in displacement camps due to past disasters be expedited and completed without delay.
