The Department of Meteorology has issued a Warm Weather Advisory for multiple areas across the island, warning of elevated heat conditions that may pose health risks.

According to the advisory, the heat index—the temperature felt by the human body—is expected to rise to the ‘Caution’ level in parts of the North-central and Eastern provinces, as well as in the Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu, Vavuniya, Monaragala, and Hambantota districts.

Under the ‘Caution’ level, fatigue is possible with prolonged exposure or physical activity. The advisory further warns that continuing activity could lead to heat cramps, especially among vulnerable populations such as children, the elderly, and those with chronic illnesses.

Authorities urge the public to:

Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water

Limit outdoor activities during peak daytime hours

Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing

Take regular breaks if working outdoors

The Meteorology Department advises residents in the affected areas to take necessary precautions and stay updated with official bulletins as weather conditions may change.
