Showers Expected in Several Areas; Rough Seas Forecast Around the Island

The Department of Meteorology has issued a weather forecast for August 7, 2025, indicating that several regions of the island will experience showers and thundershowers throughout the day.

 Inland Weather:

Light showers are expected in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the districts of Nuwara-Eliya, Kandy, Galle, and Matara.

In addition, showers or thundershowers may occur in isolated places in the Uva Province and in the Batticaloa, Ampara, and Mullaittivu districts after 1.00 p.m.

The public is urged to take precautions against potential hazards such as temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Rain Conditions:

Showers are likely in sea areas off the coast from Colombo to Matara via Galle.

Winds:

Winds will be westerly to south-westerly at speeds of 30–40 kmph.

Wind speeds may increase to 50–55 kmph in sea areas from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota, and up to 50 kmph in sea areas from Kalpitiya to Kankasanthurai via Mannar.

State of the Sea:

Sea areas from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota will be rough at times, while those from Kalpitiya to Kankasanthurai via Mannar will be fairly rough.

Fishermen and naval communities are advised to be cautious due to the possibility of strong winds and rough sea conditions.
