A 78-year-old senior academic, formerly serving as the Managing Director of the Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM)'s Dubai branch, has been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) over an alleged Rs. 60 million financial fraud.

The suspect, a resident of Pannipitiya, is believed to have misappropriated institutional funds during his tenure at the overseas branch. The CID’s Commercial Crime Investigation Division 1 carried out the arrest following a formal complaint and subsequent internal investigations into the mismanagement of funds.

A senior CID officer confirmed that the investigation uncovered substantial evidence of fund misuse linked to the professor's administrative role at the Dubai campus. The accused was taken into custody earlier today and is expected to be presented before the courts in the coming days.

Authorities said further inquiries are ongoing, and more details may emerge as the investigation progresses.
