Airport & Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Private) Limited (AASL) proudly welcomed the arrival of SF Airlines’ Boeing 757-200 freighter at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), celebrating the launch of a direct air cargo service between Kunming,
China and Colombo, Sri Lanka. The inaugural flight was greeted with a traditional water cannon salute, underscoring the significance of this new air logistics link.
This milestone marks a significant enhancement in air cargo connectivity between China and Sri Lanka, creating a direct, efficient corridor that will strengthen trade and economic cooperation. The new route is poised to facilitate faster and more reliable cargo movement, benefiting exporters, importers, and logistics partners in both countries.
Colombo, often referred to as the “Crossroads of the East,” serves as a key gateway connecting South Asia, Southeast Asia, and the vast Indian Ocean shipping lanes. The addition of this direct cargo route from Kunming further amplifies the island nation’s strategic role in regional economic integration.
“AASL is delighted to welcome SF Airlines to Colombo,” said a spokesperson for Airport & Aviation Services. “This partnership represents a significant step in expanding Sri Lanka’s air cargo capacity and global trade connectivity. We look forward to a strong, mutually beneficial relationship with SF Airlines that supports the continued development of the air freight industry in Sri Lanka.”
SF Airlines, China’s largest cargo airline, is known for its extensive network and operational efficiency. The Kunming–Colombo route will play a vital role in enhancing supply chain reliability and opening new trade opportunities for industries across both nations.
As Sri Lanka continues to position itself as a logistics hub in the region, partnerships such as this highlight the growing importance of air cargo in global trade and economic development.
