Visa strengthens Sri Lanka tourism with regional leadership summit in Colombo

The three-day event highlights Visa’s strategic partnership with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau to position the island nation as a top destination for leisure and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism.
The collaboration, following a recent MoU, aims to boost inbound travel and tourist spending through secure digital payment solutions at key tourist sites. Visa will also help digitise payments and provide financial literacy and skills training to local micro and small tourism businesses.
Stephen Karpin, Visa’s Regional President for Asia Pacific, stated, “After 37 years in Sri Lanka, we’re proud to support its digital and tourism transformation.”
Tourism Bureau Chairman Buddhika Hewawasam added, “This alliance enhances traveller convenience while empowering local businesses, and underscores Sri Lanka’s growing appeal as a MICE hub.”
Visa is also supporting broader digital economy initiatives, including digital payments for public services and innovative solutions like mobile wallets and cross-border payments in partnership with the Ministry of Digital Economy.
