Colombo Dockyard PLC, a prominent shipbuilding and heavy engineering company, announced its intent to expand further into the niche market of underwater restaurant construction in the Maldives, following the successful delivery of two high-profile projects.

The company confirmed in a filing to the Colombo Stock Exchange that it is “actively seeking involvement in several potential projects for the construction of underwater restaurants in the Maldives” and is continuing to promote its heavy engineering capabilities internationally.

Colombo Dockyard recently completed a 12-passenger capacity underwater restaurant for a Maldivian client. The unit was constructed in Colombo and towed across the Indian Ocean, arriving in the Maldives on March 28. Installation preparations are currently underway under the technical supervision of Colombo Dockyard personnel.

Earlier, on February 20, the company delivered an ‘Underwater Gallery Structure’ for another Maldivian client. That unit was successfully installed at its designated location on May 16, 2025.

These developments underscore Colombo Dockyard’s strategic pivot toward high-value engineering projects beyond traditional shipbuilding, with the Maldives emerging as a key market for its specialized underwater infrastructure solutions.
