Nishantha Bandara Basnayake, the former Coordinating Secretary to ex-Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, has been ordered to be remanded until June 3 by Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali.

Basnayake is accused of aiding and abetting the misappropriation of over Rs. 8 million in public funds during his tenure at the Ministry of Mass Media, Health and Environment.

The alleged offenses are tied to his time serving under the former Minister, and the case forms part of a broader investigation into financial irregularities during Rambukwella's ministerial term.

Appearing before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court today, prosecutors submitted that there was sufficient evidence linking Basnayake to the misappropriation, prompting the court to remand him pending further inquiries.

The case is expected to be taken up again on June 3, as investigations continue.
