The Election Commission has issued a stern warning to candidates who contested the recently concluded Local Government Election, stating that legal action will be taken against those who fail to submit their campaign income and expenditure reports.

Commissioner General of Elections, Saman Sri Ratnayake, emphasized that the submission of financial reports is a legal requirement. He further stated that the names of defaulters will be forwarded to the Police for necessary action.

"Based on the advice of the Attorney General, legal proceedings may be initiated against those who neglect this responsibility," Ratnayake warned.

The Election Commission reiterated its commitment to transparency and accountability in the electoral process and urged all candidates to comply promptly with reporting obligations.
