The Department of Meteorology has issued a Red Alert warning for strong winds and rough seas affecting several coastal regions of Sri Lanka. The alert covers the sea areas stretching from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and Mannar, and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.

According to the advisory, wind speeds in these areas are expected to increase significantly, with gusts potentially exceeding 60-70 km/h. The sea conditions are forecast to be very rough, posing a serious risk to fishing and naval activities.

The Meteorology Department strongly advises fishermen and coastal communities to avoid venturing into the sea until further notice. Naval operations are also urged to proceed with extreme caution.Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and urge the public to stay tuned to official updates and heed any evacuation notices or safety instructions issued by local disaster management centers.
