Disrupt Asia 2025’ to be held in September 2025 in Colombo

Ministries of Digital Economy and Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism in partnership with Sri Lanka Missions and Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) will collaborate with the objective of bringing IT partnerships, innovation, technology and investment through the seminal event ‘Disrupt Asia 2025’ to be held in September 2025 in Colombo.

At Hybrid sessions held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, co-chaired by Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Eranga Weeraratne and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment Arun Hemachandra on 21 May 2025, Heads of Mission discussed ways and means to enhance Sri Lanka’s IT, innovation and technology sector and the significant opportunity which Disrupt Asia 2025 would bring for establishing global IT partnerships as well as investments.

Deputy Minister Arun Hemachandra observed that Disrupt Asia 2025 Summit is a testament to government’s unwavering commitment to build Sri Lanka as a vibrant digital economy and a dynamic startup hub.

 He emphasized the significance of harnessing the strength of the diplomatic network and international partnerships in making this Summit a catalyst for economic growth, innovation and technological advancement.

Deputy Minister Eranga Weeraratne emphasized the need to enhance world perception on the Sri Lankan digital economy from mostly highly efficient outsourcing destination to a thriving startup hub facilitated by an integrated IT eco system. 

Highlighting the country’s potential in relation to AI data centers and digital public infrastructure, he stressed the need to strategically position Sri Lanka as a regional hub for IT events.

Secretary (Actg.) Ministry of Digital Economy, Chairman ICTA and Chief Presidential Advisor on Digital Economy, Senior Director General (Economic Affairs) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism and Associate Chief Digital Economy Officer of ICTA provided the objectives of Disrupt Asia 2025, strategic perspectives of the sector, outlining the industry Roadmap up to 2030 and beyond. Disrupt Asia 2025 will be Sri Lanka’s seminal industry event in Colombo this year.
