New Zealand relations, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of New Zealand, Hon. Winston Peters, arrived in Sri Lanka this morning for an official visit. He was warmly welcomed at the Bandaranaike International Airport by Sri Lanka's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Arun Hemachandra.

His landmark visit marks the first by a New Zealand Foreign Minister to Sri Lanka since 2013, signifying a renewed commitment to deepen diplomatic, trade, and tourism ties between the two island nations.

With Sri Lanka continuing its efforts to position itself as a premier tourist destination in the Asia-Pacific region, the visit is expected to open new avenues for cooperation in sustainable tourism, eco-tourism, and cultural exchange. Discussions are also likely to include strategies to enhance air connectivity and promote Sri Lanka as a top travel destination for New Zealanders.

Tourism officials expressed optimism that this high-level diplomatic engagement will boost visitor arrivals from New Zealand, particularly as Sri Lanka offers a unique mix of heritage, wildlife, and natural beauty that aligns with the preferences of Kiwi travelers.

The Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau is planning collaborative initiatives to leverage this visit and strengthen tourism marketing in New Zealand.
