Shubman Gill has been appointed as India's new Test captain, taking over from Rohit Sharma, who recently retired from the format. The announcement came on Saturday alongside the unveiling of a 15-member squad for the upcoming five-match Test series against England, starting June 20 in Leeds.

At 25, Gill becomes the 37th player to lead India in Test cricket. This marks a unique moment in Indian cricket history, with three different captains across formats: Gill (Tests), Suryakumar Yadav (T20Is), and Rohit Sharma (ODIs).
