Ven. Ampitiye Sumanarathana Thero, the Chief Incumbent of Sri Mangalarama Viharaya in Batticaloa, was arrested by police on Thursday following an incident of disorderly conduct at the Ampara Police Station.
According to police sources, the arrest was made after the Thero reportedly created a disturbance within the station premises during a visit regarding a separate complaint. Eyewitnesses claim the situation escalated when officers attempted to calm the monk, who appeared agitated during the interaction.
