The Constitutional Council has unanimously approved President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s request to extend the tenure of incumbent Auditor General Dharmapala Gammanpila for an additional six months, according to sources.

The decision, made during a Council meeting held today, ensures Gammanpila will continue in office beyond his scheduled term. All members of the Constitutional Council reportedly endorsed the President’s proposal without objection.

Gammanpila, who has held the post of Auditor General during a period marked by calls for greater public accountability and transparency, is expected to oversee several key audits during the extension period.
