A serious road accident occurred today at the Inigodawela railway crossing on the Chilaw-Colombo main road, involving three vehicles and leaving seven individuals injured.
According to police reports, the incident took place while the railway crossing was closed for an oncoming train. Two vehicles, including a van, were reportedly parked at the crossing when a container truck approached at high speed and collided with the parked van, triggering a chain reaction involving the third vehicle.
All seven injured victims were rushed to the Chilaw General Hospital for treatment. Their current condition remains under observation.
Authorities are conducting further investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident, and the public is advised to exercise caution at railway crossings, especially during closures.
