Card payment facilities on expressways will be officially operational starting today (21), as part of a sustainable transportation initiative launched by the Ministry of Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation.

Under this new system, motorists will be able to make toll payments using debit and credit cards at exit gates along the Southern Expressway, Colombo-Katunayake Expressway, and the Mirigama-Kurunegala section of the Central Expressway.

According to the Ministry, all necessary infrastructure has been installed to support the launch, ensuring a smoother and more efficient toll payment experience. In preparation for the rollout, staff at 35 interchanges and 119 exit gates have been trained to provide assistance and ensure a seamless transition to the digital system.

The initiative is part of a broader effort to modernize Sri Lanka’s expressway operations, reduce cash handling, and enhance travel convenience for the public.
