
Sri Lanka Braces for Increasing Showers and Strong Winds

Rainfall Forecast:
Showers or thundershowers are expected at intervals in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-Western, and Central provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts. Notably, fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm is likely in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, along with Puttalam, Galle, Matara, Nuwara-Eliya, and Kandy districts.
Scattered showers may occur in the North-Central province, while Uva province and Ampara district may experience evening or nighttime thundershowers.
Wind Conditions:
Fairly strong winds ranging from 30–40 kmph are expected over the western slopes of the central hills and in the Northern, North-Central, North-Western, and Southern provinces, including the Trincomalee district.
The general public is advised to take precautions against potential damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Marine Forecast:
Mariners are urged to exercise caution as showers and thundershowers are forecasted in the sea areas from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle. Winds over the sea will be westerly to south-westerly at speeds of 30–40 kmph.
However, wind speeds could intensify, reaching 55–65 kmph in the sea areas from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and Mannar, and from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota. Wind speeds up to 50–55 kmph are also expected between Chilaw and Galle via Colombo, and from Kankasanthurai to Trincomalee via Mullaittivu.
Sea conditions in these areas will be rough to fairly rough, with wave heights ranging from 2.0 to 2.5 meters. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas may occur during thundershowers.
Naval and fishing communities are strongly advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to ensure safety.
