Sri Lanka's Supreme Court embraces digital era with launch of online payments

Marking a major milestone in Sri Lanka’s journey toward digital transformation in the legal sector, the Supreme Court officially launched its online payment system via the GovPay platform. The landmark initiative was unveiled at a special ceremony held at the Supreme Court Complex in Hulftsdorp, Colombo 12, under the esteemed patronage of Chief Justice Hon. Jayantha Jayasuriya, PC.

This digital payment facility, developed in collaboration with GovPay, empowers legal professionals and the general public to make secure, real-time payments through any GovPay-enabled internet or mobile banking platform, as well as select FinTech applications.

The newly introduced system covers a wide array of services provided by the Supreme Court, including:

Brief Fees

Certified Copying Fees

Commercial High Court Appeal Filing Fees

Compensation and Cost Payments

Attorney-at-Law Enrollment Fees

Good Standing Certificate Fees

New Plaint Filing Fees

Online Payments for Affidavits

Speaking at the event, Chief Justice Murdu Fernando, PC, emphasized the importance of digitizing public services to enhance transparency, convenience, and efficiency in the legal system. "This initiative is a significant step towards a more modern and accessible judiciary, aligning with the broader national agenda for digital governance," she noted.

The introduction of the GovPay platform at the Supreme Court is expected to reduce administrative burdens, minimize delays, and improve overall user experience for both legal practitioners and citizens.

With this progressive move, Sri Lanka’s judiciary continues to lead by example in embracing technology to serve the public better and streamline legal processes across the country.
