Top politicians linked to organized crime groups - Minister Ananda Wijepala

According to the minister, those allegedly involved include former ministers, deputy ministers, and sitting Members of Parliament from the United National Party (UNP), Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), and Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP).

Minister Wijepala stated, “We have received credible intelligence that key individuals affiliated with these political parties are in direct contact with powerful underworld gangs. These links are not superficial  they suggest coordination and potential collaboration.”

He further confirmed that ongoing investigations are being carried out by law enforcement agencies, with a special task force assigned to apprehend those involved. “The law will be applied equally, regardless of political status,” he emphasized.

The announcement has sent shockwaves through political circles, prompting calls for transparency and swift legal action. Meanwhile, opposition leaders have urged the government to ensure that the investigation is not politically motivated and is conducted in a fair and impartial manner
