Established on 18th February 1948, the International Military Sports Council (CISM) is one of the largest multidisciplinary organizations in the world as well as an international military sports organization devoted to bringing together armed forces personnel from 140 member countries for a number of sporting events.

In a compelling address to a distinguished gathering, the Navy Chief lauded the International Military Sports Council (CISM) for its remarkable 77-year legacy of promoting friendship among servicemen through sports. He emphasized that CISM’s sporting events serve as a vital platform for strengthening international military ties. Further, he underscored the Sri Lankan Armed Forces’ dual role as both defenders of the nation and contributors to sports, nurturing athletes who represent the country.

The Navy Commander also stressed the importance of sports in building physical and mental resilience, discipline, and perseverance, qualities essential for cultivating leadership, teamwork and a determined mindset among military personnel.

The CISM General Assembly & Congress which got underway today will be held until 25th May. On the sidelines of the event, Continental Meetings will be held at the Cinnamon Lakeside, Colombo on 20 May and a solemn occasion to offer floral tributes to the National War Memorial in Sri Jayawardenapura-Kotte.
