The city of Colombo is set to take center stage in global twin research and celebration as it hosts the International Twin Congress 2025 on August 10, 11, and 12.

This unprecedented event will bring together leading international scholars, researchers, and twins from around the world, marking a historic milestone for both Sri Lanka and the global scientific community.

The Congress represents a joint gathering of two prestigious events: the 8th Congress on Twin Pregnancy: A Global Perspective and the 20th Congress of the International Society of Twin Studies (ISTS). It is expected to be a landmark occasion, pushing the boundaries of research and understanding in the field of twin studies.

“This Congress is very, very important because it’s a landmark in our history. In my opinion, this level of Congress is unprecedented,” said Professor Athula Sumathipala, Secretary General of the ISTS.

Attendees can expect a dynamic and comprehensive program, including keynote addresses by global experts, in-depth panel discussions, and scientific presentations on topics ranging from genetics and epigenetics to twin health, psychology, and social development.

Adding a vibrant cultural layer to the event, a special prelude titled Twin Talent Fest 2025 will be held on June 14, celebrating the unique talents and creativity of local twins in Sri Lanka. This festival aims to foster community engagement and highlight the social dimensions of twinhood.

With its fusion of groundbreaking research, academic collaboration, and cultural celebration, the International Twin Congress 2025 is poised to be a defining moment in the history of twin studies and a proud occasion for Sri Lanka on the world stage.
