The Department of Meteorology reports that South-West monsoon conditions are gradually establishing over the island, bringing widespread rainfall and gusty winds to many parts of the country.

Showers or thundershowers are expected at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-Western, Central, and Southern provinces. Fairly heavy rainfall, around 75 mm, is likely in several areas including Galle, Matara, Puttalam, Nuwara-Eliya, and Kandy districts.

The Northern and North-Central provinces will experience intermittent showers, while the Eastern province may receive showers or thundershowers during the evening or night.

Strong winds of 30–40 kmph are expected at times in the North-Western, North-Central, Northern, Central, and Southern provinces, as well as in Trincomalee district. The public is advised to take precautions against possible damage from temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Sea areas around the island will experience showers or thundershowers. Winds will be westerly to south-westerly at 30–40 kmph, with speeds increasing to 55–65 kmph in the sea areas off the coast from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle, Matara, and Hambantota.

Sea conditions will be rough to fairly rough, with wave heights reaching 2.0 to 2.5 meters in the aforementioned coastal waters. Naval and fishing communities are strongly advised to remain vigilant and exercise caution, especially during thundershowers when temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas are expected.
