
National War Heroes’ commemoration ceremony commences in Battaramulla

The National War Heroes Commemoration Ceremony commenced this morning opposite the War Heroes Memorial in Battaramulla, under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
The solemn event honors the valiant sacrifices made by Sri Lanka’s armed forces in preserving national sovereignty and bringing an end to terrorism. A large gathering of dignitaries, military personnel, and special invitees attended the ceremony, highlighting its national significance.
Among the distinguished guests were Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka, Admiral of the Fleet Wasantha Karannagoda, and Marshal of the Air Force Roshan Gunathilaka the top military leaders who played instrumental roles in the decisive defeat of terrorism in Sri Lanka.
The ceremony included moments of silence, the laying of floral tributes, and addresses reflecting on the courage and commitment of the country’s war heroes. The President paid homage to all fallen and living heroes of the armed forces and emphasized the importance of unity, peace, and national reconciliation.
The annual event continues to be a poignant reminder of the price of peace and the enduring gratitude of a nation to its defenders.
