The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) announced today that more than 100,000 Sri Lankans have left the country for overseas employment since the beginning of the year.
As of May 19, a total of 100,413 individuals have registered and departed for foreign employment. Of this number, 64,150 have gone abroad through self-registration, while 36,263 used foreign employment agencies.
The workforce comprises 60,917 men and 39,496 women.
The majority of workers have headed to the State of Kuwait (25,672), followed by the United Arab Emirates (18,474), Qatar (14,162), and Saudi Arabia (12,625). Other notable destinations include Japan (4,212), Israel (3,395), and South Korea (2,036).
The Bureau further stated its target for 2025 is to send 340,000 workers abroad, as part of efforts to boost remittances and support the national economy.
