The Colombo Magistrate's Court on Thursday ordered the release of 12 individuals who were arrested in connection with the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks, following the completion of investigations by the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID).

According to court proceedings, the TID informed the Magistrate that their inquiries into the suspects had concluded and the relevant reports had been submitted to the Attorney General’s Department. Based on the Attorney General’s directions, the suspects were released from custody.

In addition to the release, the court also ordered that all items and case materials seized during the arrests be returned to the individuals.

The 2019 Easter Sunday attacks, which targeted churches and luxury hotels, claimed the lives of over 250 people and left hundreds injured. The case has seen a series of investigations and legal proceedings over the years.

Authorities have not disclosed any further action to be taken against the released suspects, and it remains unclear if any charges will be pursued in the future.
