The formal ceremony was attended by members of the Maha Sangha, other religious dignitaries, members of the Sri Lankan community, Buddhist devotees, dignitaries, and invited guests. In her welcome address, the Acting High Commissioner underscored the significance of the Vesak celebrations as a time of unity, reflection, and hope.
The Most Venerable Bogoda Seelawimala Nayaka Thero, the Chief Prelate of Great Britain and Head Monk of the London Buddhist Vihara, delivered a profound Dhamma Sermon, followed by a guided meditation session.
Following the formal ceremony, the gathering was treated to a Bhakthi Gee performance by the Rupavahini Muthuhara Children’s Society UK 2515, and the evening culminated in a traditional Dansala (almsgiving), featuring Sri Lankan food and hosted by the UK branches of the alumni associations of the following Sri Lankan schools initiated by foreign nationals who followed the Buddhist doctrine and enabled wider communities to participate in education with Buddhist values; Ananda College, Nalanda College, Musaeus College, Mahamaya Girls’ College, and Dharmaraja College.
