Nine including IUSF convener released on bail

Nine individuals, including Madhushan Chandrajith, the convener of the Inter-University Students' Federation (IUSF), were released on bail after being produced before the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

The group was arrested earlier in the day for staging a protest opposite the Ministry of Health, allegedly in violation of a court order. The demonstration was organized by members of the IUSF in collaboration with the Joint Health Sciences Graduates' Union.

The protestors were demanding solutions to longstanding issues faced by health sciences graduates and university students. Despite the prior court order prohibiting such gatherings, the protest went ahead, prompting police intervention and subsequent arrests.
