Court grants bail to 'teacher amma' and associates in assault case

The Negombo Magistrate's Court today ordered the release on bail of Hayeshika Fernando, also known as ‘Teacher Amma’, a prominent scholarship tutor who surrendered to the court after being on the run for nearly a week.
She is accused of brutally assaulting and injuring a young man in an incident that garnered widespread public attention.
Mrs.Fernando, along with her husband the manager of the tuition institute and two other employees, was granted bail on two surety bonds of Rs. 1 million each. The court stipulated that only close relatives may serve as sureties for the bail, and all four suspects are required to submit valid Grama Seva certificates as part of their bail conditions.
