Authorities have announced a special Mosquito Control Week from June 19 to 24, targeting the reduction of mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue. Dr. Sudath Samaraweera, a leading medical expert, confirmed the program will be carried out in 15 districts, including Colombo, covering 95 health officer divisions.
The initiative focuses on environmental cleanliness and public awareness, with support from the armed forces, police, and civil organizations. Community cleanup campaigns and educational drives will be central to the effort.
Officials urge the public to take part in the program by keeping their surroundings clean and eliminating mosquito breeding sites. The campaign highlights the critical role of community action and cross-agency collaboration in protecting public health.
