The Department of Meteorology forecasts intermittent showers and thundershowers in several parts of the island today. Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-western provinces, along with Galle and Matara districts, are expected to experience frequent showers. Some areas in the Western Province and the southern coastal districts may see fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50mm.

Meanwhile, isolated showers or thundershowers are likely in the Central, Uva, North-central, and Eastern provinces after 1.00 p.m.

Windy Conditions Persist

Fairly strong winds ranging between 30-40 kmph are expected at times across the Northern, North-central, North-western, and Southern provinces, as well as the Trincomalee district. The public is urged to exercise caution against temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Sea Area Advisory

Showers are forecast in the sea areas off the coasts from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle, and from Batticaloa to Kankasanthurai via Trincomalee. Winds will remain westerly to south-westerly, with speeds reaching 30-40 kmph, increasing up to 50-60 kmph at times, particularly in the sea areas from Kankasanthurai to Pottuvil via the western and southern coasts.

The seas in these regions will be rough at times, and mariners are advised to remain vigilant. All sea areas may experience temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough conditions during thundershowers.

Precautionary Notice

The public and fishing communities are kindly requested to take necessary precautions to minimize damage from lightning and strong winds, especially during thundershower activity.
