Sri Lanka sees 18.3% surge in workers’ remittances in early 2025

Sri Lanka has reported a significant 18.3% year-on-year increase in workers’ remittances during the first four months of 2025, according to the latest data released by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL).
From January to April 2025, remittance inflows reached USD 2,460.5 million, marking a substantial rise compared to the same period in 2024. This surge reflects renewed confidence among Sri Lankan expatriates and improved global economic conditions, analysts say.
In April alone, workers’ remittances totaled USD 646.1 million, slightly lower than March but still contributing strongly to the cumulative total.
Remittances continue to play a vital role in bolstering Sri Lanka’s foreign reserves and supporting the domestic economy, particularly during ongoing efforts to stabilize the country's financial position.
