Dr. Tilak Siyambalapitiya resigns as chairman of Ceylon Electricity Board

Dr. Tilak Siyambalapitiya has tendered his resignation as Chairman of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), effective immediately. His departure comes amid ongoing challenges within the energy sector and recent controversies surrounding the CEB's leadership.
Dr. Siyambalapitiya, a seasoned energy expert, assumed the role of Chairman in September 2024, succeeding Eng. K.G.R.F. Comester. During his tenure, he advocated for competitive procurement processes and the adoption of regional best practices to enhance efficiency and reduce electricity costs. He also emphasized the importance of a fair and independent regulator, the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL), to ensure effective oversight of the sector.
In a recent development, Dr. Siyambalapitiya publicly apologized after alleging undue pressure from Indian authorities regarding a wind power project. He retracted his statement, clarifying that it was made without proper verification. This incident has added to the complexities surrounding his leadership at the CEB.
