At least 11 people have been confirmed dead following a tragic bus accident this morning at Gerandi Ella, Ramboda, on the Nuwara Eliya – Gampola main road, police said.
According to early reports, among the deceased are five males and three females, while efforts are underway to ascertain the identities of all the victims.
The incident occurred when a Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) bus, operating on the Kataragama to Kurunegala route via Nuwara Eliya, veered off the road and plunged down a steep precipice.
Approximately 25 others sustained injuries in the crash and have been rushed to the Nuwara Eliya and Kotmale hospitals for treatment.
Police and rescue teams continue to investigate the cause of the accident. Further details are expected as the situation develops.
