Sri Lanka Air Force Bell 212 helicopter crashes into Maduru Oya reservoir

A Bell 212 helicopter belonging to the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) crashed into the Maduru Oya Reservoir earlier today, May 9, 2025. The aircraft had taken off from the Hingurakgoda Air Force Base and was en route to the Maduru Oya area.
The SLAF has confirmed the crash and is currently investigating the cause of the incident. At this time, there is no official information regarding casualties or injuries. The Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL) has been notified and is expected to assist in the investigation.
