The Sri Lankan Parliament is scheduled to meet today at 9:30 a.m., commencing a full day of sessions focused on public accountability, economic reforms, and infrastructure utilization.

As per the day's agenda, the morning session from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. will be dedicated to parliamentary business as outlined in Standing Orders 22 (1-6). From 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Members of Parliament will address questions requiring oral answers, followed by a session from 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for questions raised under Standing Order 27(2).

A significant portion of the day — from 11:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. — has been allocated to debate six motions submitted by private members. These motions are expected to spark discussions on issues ranging from public sector reforms to national development initiatives.

MP Hesha Withanage's motion to appropriately limit the privileges granted to current and former public representatives, including former heads of state and their widows.

MP Rohana Bandara's proposal advocating for greater public sector involvement in the import and distribution of essential food items.

MP Chaminda Wijesiri's motion calling for the implementation of recommendations made in government audit reports.

MP Ravi Karunanayake's proposal to ensure every Sri Lankan family is provided with a home.

MP Ravindra Bandara's motion to enforce regulations ensuring that only buses meeting public transport standards are imported.

MP Lal Premanath's proposal to utilize currently unused government buildings under a new “Development Proposals” initiative.

The session will conclude with a half-hour adjournment debate from 5:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., during which two final questions will be addressed.

Today’s parliamentary proceedings are expected to draw attention for their strong emphasis on public welfare, fiscal responsibility, and practical governance solutions.
