
2025 LG polls : All island final results

In a historic shift in Sri Lanka's political landscape, the National People's Power (NPP) has emerged as the dominant force in the 2025 Local Government Elections, securing 4,503,930 votes (43.26%) and clinching 3,927 seats across the country.
According to official results, the NPP is now leading in 266 local councils, including 23 Municipal Councils, 26 Urban Councils, and 217 Pradeshiya Sabhas, signaling a sweeping endorsement from the electorate.
The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) secured second place with 2,258,480 votes (21.69%), winning 1,767 seats. The party is leading in 13 councils—2 Urban Councils and 11 Pradeshiya Sabhas.
In a significant setback, the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) garnered only 954,517 votes (9.17%) and 742 seats, failing to secure leadership in any local council. Similarly, the United National Party (UNP), despite obtaining 488,406 votes (4.69%) and 381 seats, could not lead any council.
The Illankai Tamil Arasu Katchi (ITAK) showed strong regional performance with 307,657 votes (2.96%) and 377 seats. ITAK is leading in 37 councils, including 3 Municipal Councils, 1 Urban Council, and 33 Pradeshiya Sabhas.
The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) won 116 seats and is leading in 5 local councils—2 Urban and 3 Pradeshiya Sabhas. The People’s Alliance and Sarvajana Balaya secured 300 and 226 seats respectively, although neither leads any councils.
Political analysts view the results as a significant reshaping of grassroots power, with the NPP poised to play a major role in shaping local governance and potentially influencing national politics in the years ahead.
