Prasanna Ranaweera Surrenders After 61 Days

Former State Minister Prasanna Ranaweera has surrendered to the Mahara Magistrate’s Court today, ending a 61-day manhunt over his alleged involvement in the illegal sale of state-owned land.
Ranaweera was wanted by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for allegedly forging documents to sell a government-owned land plot in Kiribathgoda to a private party. The case drew significant public attention due to the misuse of state property and allegations of corruption at high levels.
Earlier, the court had issued arrest warrants and ordered the seizure of properties belonging to both Ranaweera and a second suspect, who also remains at large. Despite repeated attempts by authorities, Ranaweera had managed to evade capture for two months before turning himself in today.
The court is expected to take further action following his surrender, including a possible remand order and continuation of the investigation by the CID.
